First time in Ascona-Locarno? Here are some ideas!

Locarno and Ascona are the two main towns in the region. Both overlooking Lake Maggiore and separated only by the Maggia Delta, they are both full of history and places to discover with the whole family. But they’re also small enough to explore in a couple of days.

First time in Ascona-Locarno? Here are some ideas!

Day 1: Cardada and Ascona

Let’s go in search of the mysterious treasures of Ascona and Locarno! First stop, Cardada, Locarno’s local mountain. In front of the station, follow the porticoes towards the lake to the Locarno-Orselina Funicular. In just five minutes you’ll be in Orselina, where you can catch the cable car to Cardada. In another five minutes you’ll be up on the mountain, ready to have fun and discover a whole new world. After lunch, head for the picturesque town of Ascona, where Pardy, our friendly leopard family ambassador, will be waiting to take you on an exciting treasure hunt. There will be plenty of time for an ice cream too, of course!

Day 2: from falcons to bamboo

Your second day will focus on nature. It begins with a visit to the Locarno Falconry, where the ancient art of falconry is still alive. You’ll have the chance to see falcons, owls, vultures and eagles in flight as you forget the rest of the world. Don’t forget to take a picture with Pardy’s friend, Dante the owl! After lunch, set off by boat for the Brissago Islands, home to well-known plants and mysterious herbs from all over the world. You might even be able to help Baroness Antoinette find her favourite flowers.

What about a longer trip?

Here are a few other suggestions if you have more time:

  • Did the whole family enjoy the exciting treasure hunt in Ascona? So, why not do another one in Locarno? There are others too – in Intragna in the Centovalli and Tenero.
  • Budding adventurers should also visit the Gordola Adventure Park and swing between the trees like Tarzan.
  • Water lovers will find a whole world to discover at Lido Locarno, with outdoor and indoor pools, water games and thrilling slides!
