Centovalli

Let yourself be enchanted by the simple and authentic beauty of the villages of the Centovalli (literally, the valley of hundred valleys), where traditions are alive and well. Famous for the small train (the "Centovallina" or "Vigezzina") that travels up and down its hills, the Centovalli are on the one hand an important transit area from and to Italy and, on the other, a paradise for hikers and nature lovers.

  • The ancient "Via del Mercato"

  • Some of the region’s must-sees are the ancient “Via del Mercato”, between Camedo and Intragna or Rasa, a minuscule village perched on a magnificent natural terrace, surrounded by vast pastures and thick woods. It is a real jewel that can only be reached on foot or by cable car.

The highest bell tower in Ticino (65 meters high) can be found in Intragna, the valley’s dominating village that borders the “Terre di Pedemonte” and the entrance to the Centovalli.

The Centovalli, and in particular the village of Verscio, are also tied to the figure of Dimitri, the famous clown who established the internationally renowned Theatre in 1971, which offers a rich and varied program. The “Comic Museum and the Academy of Physical Theatre” (University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland) are annexed to the Dimitri Theatre.
