Accessibility Ticino

Arrival by train

To avoid road traffic, we recommend travelling by public transport. There are direct connections from Basel, Lucerne and Zurich to Locarno several times a day. The train route between Domodossola and Locarno, which is operated by the Vigezzina-Centovalli railway, is one of the 10 most beautiful train routes in Europe (according to Lonely Planet).

The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) will provide 11,000 additional seats from Friday to Sunday to counteract the interruption of the Gotthard base tunnel until its full operation. In addition, they are monitoring the current traffic situation on the San Bernardino route in order to increase capacity as soon as necessary.

Situation of the lake and rivers

Caution is advised, especially near watercourses!

The bathing ban for Lake Maggiore and the River Maggia has been lifted with immediate effect. It is recommended to avoid areas with accumulations of driftwood and to swim only in clear water.

Vallemaggia

The Vallemaggia is accessible as far as Riveo without restrictions. Campsites, accommodation, restaurants, shops and activities are open as normal in the lower Vallemaggia as far as Riveo.

We would like to inform you that Val Rovana and its infrastructure have been spared from the severe weather. Investigations are currently underway to assess the condition of the hiking trail network.

The cable cars in Bosco Gurin and Robiei will remain closed until further notice due to the lack of access.

The rest of the tourist region of Ascona-Locarno and Valleys is normally accessible.

The hiking trails in the upper Vallemaggia, from Riveo north, are not passable until further notice
