In the revised edition of "Die schönsten Hotels der Schweiz" by the Swiss Heritage Protection, our Hotel Casa Martinelli is described as an architectural surprise in the Maggia Valley.
The historic customs house from the 17th century was carefully renovated in 2011 by the renowned architect Luigi Snozzi and expanded with a cubic new building.
Although just a 15-minute drive from Locarno, the small hotel is in an absolutely quiet location, directly by the Salto River, with a majestic waterfall in the background and, a hundred steps above the house, the stately parish church of San Maurizio.
Between October and May, Vallemaggia is completely peaceful.
Open-air concerts and the last films on Piazza Grande have faded away.
The picturesque villages and grotti temporarily belong to the Ticinese again. Unnoticed by the large tourist crowds, our valleys transform into magical and pristine landscapes, "our" waterfall into a spectacular roar, and Casa Martinelli into a small seminar hotel.
Wedding
