Jader Bignamini started his career very young as a clarinettist in the Orchestra Verdi in Milan, but his natural talent and versatility with the baton saw him conducting the best American and international orchestras in the space of just a few years. This evening marks his eagerly anticipated début at the Settimane Musicali di Ascona with the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana and Francesca Dego, a violinist with a strikingly assured technique and a burgeoning interest in unearthing new works and rare gems from the recent past. Busoni’s violin concerto, with vague echoes of Brahms, is the programme's centrepiece, surrounded by four pieces that are emblematic of their respective composers’ styles: two overtures by Rossini, a nostalgic nocturne by Martucci and Mozart’s radiant “Haffner” symphony.
