On the occasion of the centenary of Franz Kafka's death (1883-1924), Leo Maillet's illustrations (1902-1990) are being exhibited for the first time in the artist's studio in Verscio. The exhibition Leo Maillet: A Life of Engraving will be open from October 12 to November 3 at the Bauhaus villa built by the artist in the 1950s, designed by architect Dolf Schnebli. The opening will take place on Friday, October 11 at 6:00 PM.
The exhibition is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM and by appointment during the week.
The exhibition brings together etchings and illustrations, including etchings, woodcuts, and engravings, created by Maillet for a collection of Kafka's short stories. The works, previously exhibited at the Mendrisio Art Museum last spring, offer a significant testimony to the connection between the artist and the writer. The exhibition coincides with the publication of the book A Crossroads, published by Casagrande, which brings together thirteen micro-stories by Kafka illustrated by Maillet.
