Wood Museum

Cavigliano

Located above the turning workshop is the Museo del Legno (Wood Museum), an exhibition space that will take you on a journey through time to discover the wood of yesterday and today.

The first floor of an old barn in the town of Cavigliano is home to the Museo del Legno, the first in the canton with the aim of raising awareness of this noble material that has been so important to humanity for millennia.

Exhibits on display in the museum's galleries include ancient and modern works of art in wood, objects used in the daily lives of our ancestors and vintage woodworking tools.
A xylotheque (a special herbarium for wood) will be set up to contain local species (to be extended over time) and a micro-xylotheque of woods from all over the world.

The museum also aims to provide information about everything to do with wood in Ticino and an example of the “forest to wood” industry which, thanks to the turnery workshop on the building’s ground floor, will demonstrate sustainability from start to finish.
