Temporary artificial ice rink:
The provisional ice rink in Prato-Sornico, inaugurated in December 2024 at the behest of the Lavizzara municipality with the aim of offering young people and all enthusiasts a space where they can experience moments of sharing and growing in nature, represents a concrete response to the difficulties faced by Alta Vallemaggia following the flood of June 2024. It is managed by the municipality of Lavizzara in collaboration with the Lavizzara Skating Society, which offers various courses, particularly for the youngest children who are just starting out in the world of skating or hockey. The rink is also ready until mid-March to welcome school classes from all over the canton for organised activities.
The facility, which is equipped with changing rooms with toilets and showers, is thus intended as an opportunity for families to enjoy recreation in nature. A child-friendly space, perfect for those taking their first steps on ice and wanting to try their hand at hockey, it is the ideal place to spend a cheerful winter's day in the Lavizzara Valley, topped off with a regenerating hot chocolate in the adjacent buvette.
The history of the Lavizzara Sports Centre destroyed by the flood began in 1965 when the budget for the construction of this ice rink was approved: it could soon be enriched by the construction of a new Lavizzara Sports Centre.
