Fondazione Valle Bavona

Since 1990, the Valle Bavona Foundation has been managing, promoting and supporting the preservation and enhancement of a unique valley in the Alps, where the traditional rural landscape, resulted of the centuries-old presence of man, has been exceptionally well preserved, set in a context of extraordinary environmental characteristics. In order to achieve its aims, the Valle Bavona Foundation supports the municipality of Cevio in the management of the built heritage and offers advice to private individuals, organisations and professionals. For these reasons the Valle Bavona is considered by many to be a true model.
For centuries, the Bavona Valley has remained unchanged, its fate dictated solely by the need to survive and the ability to adapt to the often adverse environmental conditions. Ingenuity and tenacity have made it possible to carve out living spaces between the boulders, using stone as the only building material, resulting in a perfect symbiosis between man and nature. Today we can marvel at such beauty, but it is our duty and responsibility to pass on to future generations these unique testimonies, which, with the disappearance of traditional agriculture, are unfortunately under threat. The Bavona Valley Foundation through the activities of the Landscape Workshop offers visitors the opportunity to live in direct contact with the territory, experimenting, developing knowledge, acquiring practice of traditional techniques, contributing to keeping intact and safeguarding an extraordinary heritage, the fruit of the work of so many men, women and children who came before us.
