Selected alternatives for you
Starting from Tenero, a town known mostly for its campsites and the CST (national youth sports centre), the road snakes around the houses before climbing up to Contra, where you get great views of Lake Maggiore and the Locarno area.

After Contra, the route takes you through a sparse forest above the Verzasca river. To avoid the long road tunnel (1300 m), we recommend that you take the old road to the right of this. While doing this might add a bit of distance, at least you stay in the open air. On reaching Mergoscia, enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Vogorno ahead and Lake Maggiore behind. You might wish to visit the parish church, whose bell tower is a recognised energy point. Return to Tenero following the same route.
