The ascent to Odro starts in Vogorno, which can be reached by car or bus (Locarno-Tenero-Sonogno route). Within a few minutes you come to the Madonna della Colletta oratory with its charming frescos. The path climbs steeply through dense woodland to Odro, which is divided into two parts. The lower part offers agrotourism, complete with a place to eat and accommodation (May-October). The upper part is home to a simple little museum (keys obtainable from the agrotourism office) devoted to the type of haymaking that's particular to this region.
The path continues upwards through rocky terrain to the Alpe Bardughè, where a wide plain offers fantastic views over Lakes Maggiore and Vogorno. The Capanna Bardughè (May-October) is unattended, but beverages are available to purchase.
The descent to Vogorno follows a zigzag path. The walk can be very warm in summer due to the lack of shade, so spring and autumn are to be preferred.
