The Verzasca Valley is known as Ticino’s green heart. It is the geographic and energy centre of Ticino. Following a route from Sonogno to Püscen Negro, we will find some of the valley's main energy centres.
Sonogno is located at the confluence of the rivers from the Vegorness and Redorta valleys. Finding areas and places of worship close to a confluence of waterways is conducive to the energy flow, as well as a popular custom among people in ancient times.
Santa Maria di Loreto church in Sonogno has an original black Madonna like the original in Loreto. Scholars say the black Madonnas refer to the goddess Isis with the baby in arms, to the divinity of the earth or black Indoeuropean gods, connected to the mystery of the cycles of nature. Froda waterfall is an energy site of striking beauty, the colour of the water and the rocky structure surrounding it. The waterfall's ionised air is highly beneficial and with the fragrance of the water, it can have an activating effect on the human organism.
The Redorta rivers converge further along at Fraced. It is a popular and often-visited site with a beautiful river dotted with rocks and a view of Redorta's mountain crown.
Püscen Negro (Pesce Nero – black fish) is the final energy point of this hike. It's a small and fascinating part of the rustic paths from where you can admire the valley extending up to the foot of Sonogno. The black Madonna and black fish. Mysterious, no?
