By car or bus (bus direction Spruga, change at Russo) you reach Gresso, the starting and ending point of this wonderful day trip. Gresso is an idyllic village and is characterised by its beautiful houses with refined wooden balconies. The Onsernone Valley is known for its steep terrain. From the village, we enter the forest and climb steeply up to Monte, a small mountain settlement. On a mule track, over steps and lush pastures into the valley and up to the beautiful Alpe di Biètri. Another short climb and then down to Alpe Bassa, from where you have a fantastic view over the Valle di Vergeletto. The descent to Pian della Crosa is gentle and mostly in the forest, which is especially pleasant during summer when it’s hot. In Pian della Crosa are beautifully renovated rustici (typical stone houses). The final stretch down to the valley is once again steep. In Gresso the bus runs (check departure times).
