Mountain hut Grotto Monti di Lego

The building, originally built in 1890 as a stable, was first renovated in 1970 and converted into a hut, then since 2010 it has been renovated and has become a cosy and pretty structure. The hut-grotto can only be reached on foot. It is located in a very sunny spot, where there is a wonderful panorama, with a 360° view, from Lake Maggiore to the Magadino plain and the surrounding mountains. Monti di Lego is located between the Val Resa in Brione sopra Minusio and the municipality of Mergoscia, of which it is part. It is a good starting point for excursions to the Verzasca Valley and the Maggia Valley, and ideal for starting or finishing the ‘Via Alta Vallemaggia’. The grotto has an indoor hall with 16 places and a large outdoor area, the upper floor houses the dormitory, and outside there are two bathrooms and a shower. Simple Ticino dishes are served in our grotto, and every day we offer minestrone, cold meats and cheeses, cheese and home-made cakes. On Sundays and public holidays, an additional menu such as polenta accompanied by meat/cheese is offered, and in warmer periods other tempting proposals. All products are typical of Ticino and are prepared in our kitchen with wood-burning stove, which also serves to heat the hut. Reservations are always welcome. The overnight stay includes dinner and breakfast, excluding drinks. We take into account the wishes of our guests in the case of intolerances or food choices, if we are informed in advance. Should you wish to spend a night in the hut bringing your four-legged friend, the presence of dogs is accepted with prior notice and agreement with the guardian; dogs are excluded from the dormitory. For overnight stays, reservations are compulsory and must be made by e-mail or telephone. The Monti di Lego hut-grotto is open from Thursday to Tuesday, Wednesday is closed for weekly rest. It is recommended to phone in case of uncertain weather, and is closed in case of heavy rain. Methods of payment cash (CHF or EURO) and Twint. It is not possible to pay with credit cards.
